Arbeit Wohlstand Macht
Landesausstellung Steyr
2021

MARCH GUT was able to stage the exhibition in the richly decorated renaissance building Innerberger Stadel and thus also designed the permanent exhibition of the Steyr City Museum.
Based on the theme of prosperity and trade, the large and small piles of grain in the former storage facilities provided inspiration for the upsloping exhibition structure. Made of cement-bonded chipboard, these spatial interventions provide a stark contrast to the historic 17th century rooms, allowing the architecture to retain its authenticity through a display of clear, harmonious difference. Showcases and screens are integrated into the design, alongside the texts, which were applied to the panels using direct printing. Information and objects merge into large presentation islands that visitors can walk around freely.

In the smaller adjoining rooms, scythe and nail blacksmiths provide an insight into earlier handcraft methods. The end of the exhibition tour was designed as a ‘hall of mirrors’, which invites visitors to reflect and brings them together with stories of today’s diverse Steyr citizens.
